Rudra was the first band of their kind to play what they call, Vedic metal, and was also the first extreme metal band to headline Baybeats. Their sound, a self-conceived amalgamation of death metal meets Indian carnatic music, is interwoven with lyrics derived from Sanskrit Vedic literature and philosophy. And even though they have been around since 1992, their first album release only came about in 1998 and to raving results that highlighted a revolutionary and unprecedented moment in the history of metal. Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and with six studio albums under their belt, the four-man outfit comprising Kathir (bass/vocals), Shiva (drums), Vinod (guitar) and Subash (guitar) returns with more head-banging energy and driving blast beats.
